Acrylic acid is primarily used as a monomer to synthesize various acrylic polymers, including polyacrylic acid, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS).These polymers have a wide range of excellent properties, including transparency, scratch resistance, flexibility, water resistance and chemical resistance, and are widely used.Acrylic acid is also used as a primary synthetic component in superabsorbent polymers (SAP).This polymer can rapidly absorb and retain large amounts of water.This unique property enables SAP to be widely utilized across multiple fields, including drug delivery systems, the chemical industry, and personal care products.
Other uses of acrylic acid:
Used as a key component to prepare copolymer adhesives for optimizing lithium-ion battery performance.
· Polyacrylic acid can be used as a surface modifier for carbon nanotubes to enhance the adhesion and dispersion of nanotubes in oxide semiconductor matrices, and is applicable for thin-film transistors.
·As an active monomer, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was surface-modified through synchronous polymerization with dimethyl acrylate of ethylene glycol.The modified PDMS can be applied in novel fields such as microfluidics or biomedical medical devices.
·Used as a precursor, cashew gum/acrylic acid nanoparticles were synthesized via copolymerization reaction.Acrylic acid can introduce hydrophilic functional groups into the cashew gum framework, enhancing its water solubility and compatibility with other hydrophilic materials.
Usually used in preparing monodispersed poly (N-isopropylacryamide) (PNIPAM)/AAc microgels.And also used primarily as an intermediate in the production of acrylates.
